Update, Week of May 3, 2010

Good Afternoon,

I'm sorry that my updates have been somewhat sporadic the last couple of weeks. With superintendent and teacher interviews my days have been very scheduled and BUSY! Still that is just an excuse. I will try to do better this week.

As everyone is probably aware, our district has been busy interviewing superintendent candidates. I'm thinking that we will probably be hearing who our new superintendent is soon. I will share the news when I'm notified.

Last week our girl's track team traveled to Williamsburg. The 7th grade girl's continued their winning ways and kept their perfect record in tact as they again placed first place. The 8th grade also had a great showing finishing 2nd. Tonight the girl's will host their track invitational at the new CCA track. The boy's will host their invitational tomorrow night.

Events this week:
Monday- CCA Girl's Track Invitational, 4:15 PM, CCAHS Track
Tuesday- CCA Boy''s Track Invitational, 4:15 PM, CCAHS Track
Friday- WAMAC Conference Track Meet, 4:30 PM, Boy's @ Williamsburg, Girl's @ Benton

Tuesday- It was great getting to see our 7th and 8th grade girl's track team performances last night. Once again the 7th grade team could not be denied another victory. In fact, they scored 210 points. I'm guessing that this is a record. The 2nd place team scored 79 points! The 8th grade team also had a strong showing finishing 3rd! Great job to all the athletes and coaches!

Wednesday- It was good to be back in the building today. It's just nice when I have time to visit with our students and staff! We have so many amazing kids and teachers at Clear Creek Amana!

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade boy's track teams! The 7th grade boy's won their own invitational last night. The 8th grade team finished third overall. I was really proud of the efforts of our young athletes. Great job!

This afternoon we had professional development time. This time is dedicated for our teachers and staff members to learn together. We also had an Instructional Services Team Meeting. This is a group of teachers and administrators that plan our professional development time for the district. Today we set our professional development schedule for the 2010-2011 school year. We have a lot of exciting things planned for our teachers. I would like to thank the middle school IST members for their work and leadership this year. The middle school IST members are Mrs. Willis, Mrs. Harken, Mrs. Huch, and Mr. Carey.

Tomorrow six Clear Creek Amana staff members will be traveling to the Van Meter Community School District in Central Iowa. Van Meter is a small district with some amazing things going on with their use of technology. In fact, each student grades 7-12 has their own laptop computer for school use. The staff members traveling to Van Meter are Mrs. Macumber (art), Mrs. Huch (literacy), Mrs. Cooper (librarian), Mrs. Zimmerman (literacy), Mr. Francis (technology coordinator), and me. I can't wait to learn and connect with the Van Meter staff!

Take care,
Brad
