Week of January 10, 2011

Hello,

Welcome to 2011! I hope everyone had a great Winter Break! It was good to have some time off and it was good to see all of our snow go away, even if for only a short time.

We have had a nice start to 2011 at Clear Creek Amana Middle School. Most everyone has returned to school with a positive attitude. Believe it or not, I think we are even back in the swing of things.

Below I have updated some upcoming events and activities in our school.

MAP Testing
Upon returning to school we have slowly started to assess some of our students on the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP Test). We are not testing all of our students during the winter test session. We are only testing a selected group of students.

Athletics
We currently have two different sports that are being offered to our students at this time. 7th and 8th grade boys have the opportunity to participate in basketball. Head coach for 7th grade basketball is Mr. Travis Thorson. His assistant coach is Mr. Mike McCue. The 8th grade head coach is Mr. Earl Berg. He is assisted by Mr. Rich Stout. The teams are currently practicing and they will have their first game next week.

We also have 7th and 8th grade swimming available to our boys and girls. They are coached by Mr. TJ Croco. They practice at our pool in Amana. Their first meet will be in February.

Trimester 2 Mid-Point
Next Tuesday, January 11th, marks the mid-point for the 2nd trimester. On Wednesday, January 19th, we will be sending home a Trimester 2 Mid-Term report with each student. Please ask your child to see their report.

Events Next Week
Tuesday, 1.11.11- Trimester 2 Mid-Point

Thursday, 1.13.11- 7/8 Basketball, 7th Home vs. Vinton-Shellsburg, 4:15 PM

Friday, 1.14.11- No School. Possible Snow Make-Up Day

Have a great weekend!
Brad
