Turning the page to November...

Hello,

It's hard to believe that we have already completed about 2.5 months of school! As we turn the calendar to November on Monday I wanted you to be aware of some upcoming events in our school.

First of all our teachers have been studying brain research for the last couple of years. Most of our learning has come from the book, The Leadership Brain: How to Lead Today's schools More Effectively. The book was written by David Sousa. To learn more about the book, click here.

From our study one of the things we have learned about the brain is that our students are suited to maximize their learning at different times throughout the school day. Knowing this we are going to rotate our schedule during the month of November. This will allow our teachers to have their students in their classroom at different times each day. We will be gathering some data on this process and I will share this information in November. On Monday the students will receive their daily schedules. We are really looking forward to this process and we hope to gather some great data to share.

Below are some talking points regarding the rotating schedule:

Why are we rotating our daily schedule?

Based on some professional development over the last couple of years on Brain Research, we have decided to pilot the rotating schedule. The idea is that our students and teachers all deserve to be at their best. By rotating our schedule the students and teachers both get to experience each other at different times during the school day and not at the same time every school day.

How long will we do the rotating schedule?

We will do the rotating schedule for the month of November.

Will we do the rotating schedule next year?

After the “pilot” of rotating the schedule this year, we will reevaluate the schedule and the data from the pilot and determine if it is something that we want to do next year.

What if a student is confused?

The students were provided with their daily schedule. If they become confused, they can come to the office and request help.
