Update, Week of April 26, 2010

Greetings,

Sorry for the delay in updating this week. It's been a busy week so far. As you know we have been interviewing candidates for our superintendent vacancy. Each day this week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) a new candidate is spending the day in the district. The candidate is taken on a tour of the district and has time to visit with different school assembled interest groups. In the evening the candidate has a community meet and greet followed by an interview with the school board.

We are also in the process of screening candidates for our vacant teaching positions. This process is also very time consuming and results in a lot of office work. Unfortunately that means I haven't been able to spend much time in classrooms this week. I hope for more classroom time and kid time next week.

Today, Wednesday, I had the opportunity to help serve lunch. I try and do this every Wednesday. I like to do this because it gives me a better understanding of the work our cooks do on a daily basis. It also allows me to see and talk to virtually every kid in our school. In general I have noted two major things about our school. 1. Our cooks work very hard every day and have a very positive attitude with the kids. 2. We have extremely polite students. I would guess that 95% of our students say thank you multiple times when going through the lunch line! In the day and age of high stakes tests, No Child Left Behind, etc, I know I'm more proud of our students when they develop into great people than I am when our students score high on tests!

Last week our boy's track team traveled to Williamsburg. The 7th grade placed 2nd and the 8th grade placed 4th. This week the boy's traveled to Regina for a meet. The 7th grade placed 3rd and the 8th grade finished 5th. Great effort to all the athletes.

Our 7th grade girl's won the track meet at Regina Tuesday night. They have also broke several school records already this school year. The 8th grade girl's finished 3rd at Regina. Again, a great job to the girl's on their efforts. Both the boy's and girl's teams are doing a great job representing CCA!

Thursday- Today was another busy day filled with another superintendent interview and several hours of screening teacher applications. This week I have had the honor of taking each superintendent candidate on a tour of our district. One thing about this that I have really enjoyed is the fact that I have had the chance to be in each of our five buildings. It's fun going from elementary to elementary seeing the kids and teachers. It's always good to spend time in our high school and see the former middle school students.

This evening our girl's track team traveled to Williamsburg. I haven't been able to get an update yet on how they did. I will share the results tomorrow.
