Update, Week of Monday, March 1, 2010

Welcome to March! It's pretty sad when even a little snow melt starts to get your hopes up. I find myself driving by area golf courses and looking out across them like a kid looks in a candy store...
It won't be long until all the snow is gone, right?

Monday- Today our students are not in session, however our teaching staff are at work enjoying a day of professional development. The day is really broken into two sessions. One session is focused on Iowa Core Instruction and the other is focused on Designing Instruction for Learning. The Iowa Core session is being taught by Michele Pettit, of Grant Wood AEA and the Designing Instruction session is being taught by DJ Corson of Hawkeye Community College.

This week we have a couple of things going on in the middle school. Tuesday night we will have a middle school choir concert beginning at 7 PM in our auditorium. On Wednesday, during the school day, our 7th grade students will be going on work place tours. The tours are brought to us by the Workplace Learning Connection.

Tuesday-We have had a good but busy day today at the middle school. The kids seemed to return to school (after a 3 day break) in good moods and ready to learn. We try hard to stress to the kids that we need to really focus hard the last couple weeks leading into Spring Break. We can't afford to tune out or become distracted from our learning objectives.

The teachers are working hard to finish up the last few PLP's with their students. Our goal is to mail home the PLP forms, Trimester 2 grades, and ITBS student results this week. Please remember that you can ALWAYS contact your child's adviser with any questions or concerns.

TONIGHT we have the middle school spring choir concert. The concert begins at 7 PM. We hope it will be a great show! The choir is under the direction of Mrs. Kari Fomon.

Wednesday- Our middle school choir students put on a great show last night! It was great to see so many people out supporting the efforts of our kids! The kids did a great job!

Today during our early release time for professional development our teachers spent time finishing up their Personal Learning Plan documents. We hope to mail home PLP's, Trimester 2 Report Cards, and ITBS information tomorrow or Friday.

This afternoon, beginning at 4 PM, our Instructional Services Team met at the high school. This group of teachers and administrators meet monthly to plan our professional development activities, help set the district calendar, and facilitate the communication with our district staff.

Thursday- Yesterday and today I had the opportunity to visit with area teachers that are part of a program at Grant Wood AEA called Contemporary School Leadership. Clear Creek Amana has had several teachers participate in this program over the years. It was great to spend a couple of hours each day talking to other educators.

Our 7th graders had good experiences yesterday visiting different work sites. Thanks to Jennifer Ott and the Work Place Learning Center for setting up these learning opportunities for our students.

WOW! It's really nice outside today... The snow is slowly melting away...

Friday- Another beautiful day at Clear Creek Amana Middle School! It's amazing what the sun can do for the spirit in an organization. Everyone seems happier today!!

Lauri Tow, secretary, has been busy printing report cards and stuffing envelopes to be mailed home later today or Saturday. Included in the mailing will be Trimester 2 Report Cards, Iowa Tests of Basic Skills information, and Personal Learning Plans. If you have any questions about any of this information, please contact me and/or your child's adviser.

Over the seven school days we have several events coming up. They are listed below:
  • March 9th, 8th Grade Financial Literacy Fair, Coralville Public Library, Depart School @ 8:30 AM
  • March 9th, Middle School Band Concert, 7 PM
  • March 12th, Middle School Drama Production, 7 PM
  • March 17th, 18th, and 19th, Spring Break
Enjoy the snow melt, and have a great weekend!

Brad
