Being someone that loves to play golf, this weather really stinks! I think the cold weather gets worse every winter! Hopefully it will start getting a little warmer next week...
We had a nice four day week of school and another week without a snow day! On Tuesday of this week I was able to spend some time at the Wesley House Soup Kitchen in Iowa City. For the last 14 years our 8th grade students have went to the soup kitchen once a month to prepare, serve, and clean up a meal for 120 people.
To say that the kids learn some things during this activity is an understatement. This week the group prepared tacos, saute peppers and onions, grilled cheese sandwiches, baked apples, and other good food for the people in attendance. Like always the kids did a great job! Thanks to Clear Creek Amana School Board Member, Betsy Momany, for being the consistent person that keeps this great service learning project going.
This week we also had many busy students with after school activities. The 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams have been busy with practices and games. The 7th and 8th grade swimmers continue to practice in preparation for their swim meets next month. We also have many middle school students involved in the middle school drama production and they have been rehearsing after school regularly. Lastly we have quite a few kids that participate in the Future Cities Competition and their work will culminate Saturday, January 22nd, with a competition at Cedar Rapids Prairie. Overall we have well over 150 students busy each night with extra-curricular events!
