Tuesday- Today I have a guest post from a student. Last week one of our 7th grade students, Cooper Horning, organized an activity in our middle school. This activity was picked up and covered by KCRG news. I asked Cooper to submit a story for my blog. Her story is below.
One Day Without Shoes
Last Thursday (April 8th), our middle school participated in Tom's Shoes One Day Without shoes to help raise awareness of how people in Africa can't afford to even wear shoes. Tom's Shoes is not just a regular shoe company. For every pair of shoes you buy from them, they give a pair away to a person in need in Africa. Their shoes aren't super expensive or fancy, and they don't give the person in need just any pair of shoes, they give them Tom's shoes. The whole point of One Day Without Shoes is the fact that you should go barefoot, just for a day, to see what it's like. And then when people stop you and ask, "Hey, where are your shoes?" you just tell them about Tom's Shoes and by simply doing that you're raising awareness and hopefully getting people to help. A majority of the middle school participated, and I'm pretty sure the participants spread the word.

Wednesday- Today during our teacher professional development time our district K-8 math teachers had meetings. The focus of their meetings is on the investigation and adoption of some new district math resources.
Other teachers in the middle school spent time grading student writing samples and/or updating their instructional planners.

The boy's track team opens up their competition tonight with a meet at Solon. Good luck to the boy's teams!
Friday- The boy's track teams opened competition last night. The 7th grade finished 3rd and the 8th grade finished 6th. It sounds like we had some really good efforts!
We started MAP testing this week. We are testing 6th and 7th graders in math and reading and 8th graders in math, reading, and science. We hope to finish testing over the next couple of weeks.
Have a great weekend!
